1948 YU FEIAN BAMBOO SCROLL PAINTING
Artist(s): Yu Feian (1888 - 1959) Bamboo A finely executed ink painting of bamboo rendered with bold, expressive brushwork. The composition emphasizes the elegant rhythm of the bamboo stalks and leaves, balancing strong, dark ink with open negative space in the literati tradition. An extended poetic inscription occupies the upper left, accompanied by the artist's seals. Bamboo has long been celebrated in Chinese painting as a symbol of upright character, perseverance, and scholarly virtue. Ink on paper, Yisebiao mount, Vertical Axis Hanging scroll Dimensions (Painting View/Sight): 136cm H x 29cm W Dated: On The Seventh Day in Ninth month of Minguo 37th years (1948) Signed/Seal(s): Two Seals, signed PROVENANCE: Acquired from a prominent collector, representing an important private collections. The collections presented and offered up to auctions from Lot 25 through Lot 136; and additional related documents and or manuscripts from Lot 137 to Lot 228. Wei Tao-Ming (Wei Daoming), (October 28, 1899 - May 18, 1978) was a prominent Chinese diplomat, statesman, and senior official of the Republic of China. Born in Jiangxi Province, he studied law in the United States and became active in the Nationalist government under Chiang Kai-shek. During the Second World War, Wei served as the Republic of China's Ambassador to the United States from 1942 to 1946, playing an important role in strengthening Sino-American relations during the Allied war effort. He later held several key government positions, including Governor of Taiwan Province (1947-1949), Ambassador to Japan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China from 1966 to 1971. Wei remained an influential figure in Chinese diplomacy throughout the mid-twentieth century and was closely involved in the Republic of China's international affairs during a period of major political transition in East Asia. ARTIST BIO: Yu Feian (1888 - 1959) Chinese 20th century master artist of fine brushwork flowers and Birds, the first artist to write thin gold script calligraphy. He studied painting with Wang Rungi in early years. In 1912, at Mongolian higher Normal School. Since 1930, he teaches at the Art Department of North China University, the Jinghua Academy of Fine Arts, and a mentor of the Chinese Painting Research Museum Antiquities Exhibition. In 1935, was the beginning era of meticulous painting of flowers and birds, first he learned from Chen Hongshou's, and then studied The Song-Yuan Dynasty Arts of Zhao's meticulous flower painting method. in 1949 and later years, he became the vice president of Beijing Chinese Painting Research Institute, a researcher of National Fine Arts Research Center of Central Academy of Fine Arts and vice chairman of Beijing Academy. Some of Yu's Masterpiece are "Magnolia Oriole map", "Red Xingshan Partridge Map", "Dove of Peace Map", "Temporary sketch rare birds map" and many more. The book has "non Black Guard Diffuse ink", "in the Black Guard meticulous flower and bird selection", "I how to paint meticulous flower and bird painting" and so on. |
